Currently working on finding my Great Grandfather Lucius
Lafayette Morrison/Hayes' parents. The earliest record of Lucius
is from the 16 Dec. 1850 Census of Springfield Twp, Erie Co.,
PA, he appears on the Census as Lucius Morison age 4, born in
Wis, living with the Enos Baker family. Enos' daughter Melissa
married Samuel Hayes after the 1850 Census and Lucius is living
with them on the 9 July 1860 Census of Springfield Twp, Erie CO.,
PA, he appears on the Census as Lucius L. Hays age 14, born in
Wisconsin. Part of the problem has been Lucius' birth place, depending
on what document your looking at his birthplace has been given
as WI, IN and MI. The Eire Genealogy Society could not find a
Guardianship record for Lucius.
A possibility - Enos Baker's daughter Philantha married a Joel Morrison,
born in NY. On the 1850 Census they were living in Brooklyn, Lee Co., IL.
They have a daughter, looks like - Lovina, age 4 born IL on the 1850 Census
which was taken on the 25th of September. Lucius could have been a twin and
living with his Grandparents??
To prove Lucius was not a Hayes I compared my DNA with a descendant
of Lucius' brother Lester, we only matched on 12 out of 25 markers which confirms
Lucius was not born a Hayes. In December 2004 the Clan Morrison Society established
a Morrison DNA project. I was their first match. I am a 35 out of 37 marker
match to a descendant of John Morrison who came to the USA (PA) from Campbeltown,
Scotland about 1750 with his brother's James & Robert, then settled in
Mecklenburg, NC about 1766, his brothers James and Robert also settled in
Mecklenburg, NC. The brother's parents were William Morison and Janet Hall.
There have been several books written about the "Rocky River
NC Morrison family", the latest being in 1996 when three books were published,
one for each brother. I purchased the three books but have been unable to
make a connection to my Lucius Morrison. Since the DNA is passed from father
to son Lucius could be a descendant of one of the brothers or a brother of
their father William. The 35 out of 37 marker match indicates a 91% probability
that we share a common ancestor within the last 300 years.
DNA Update - as of December 2005 I now have an exact
37 marker match to a descendant of James Morrison born 1753/1757
in Muirkirk, Ayr, Scotland. I am in Group A at the Clan Morrison
DNA Site and have 10 close Morrison matches.
